“Back of Check” Contract from the ’70s from Marvel. The only way to get paid was to sign away your rights. Anywhere outside the corporate world, that’s called blackmail. 

Real, ethical contracts are agreed upon before the work is done, not imposed after the fact in order to be paid.

I don’t care if some court has somehow managed to find this legal, it’s still wrong, and I don’t think it’s outrageous to hold Marvel responsible for this behavior. Marvel can do some things now to make up for at least some of what they’ve done in the past even if they don’t legally have to.

Maybe it’s time Marvel learned that doing the legal thing could cost them more in the long run than doing the right thing.

No doubt. If this isn’t criminal, it should be. This is an insane, despicable way to treat creators.
