tangled

personal notes

For the past six years, I’ve been a participant in Second Life, and while my active game participation waxes and wanes, depending on what’s going on, the character I created seems to be developing a life of her own.

Mine.

Unless things radically change, you won’t find pictures of me on these pages. But at this point, Emilly Orr’s likes and dislikes are mine. I’m trying to react honestly, posting what I’m drawn to (here and elsewhere), and there’s a lot of life history I’m drawing on, far beyond the pixel limits.

So who is Emilly, who am I? Submissive to one man (most of the time), working on equality with all others (most of the time). Feminist, geek, avid reader of just about everything; crafter, writer, poet, lover of bad (and occasionally very good) fashion; charmed by gadgets, emergent technology, virtual worlds, and video/PC games.

I adopted Minecraft early; I play in SL and in City of Heroes; I’ve played in the past in Runes of Magic, Vindictus, and Phantasy Star Online. I have a Steam account which I mostly use to play Team Fortress 2 and the original Portal. I have Diablo II and Alpha Centauri: Alien Crossfire loaded on my system, but they’re not working as well as they used to. (Alas, because I love both games.) My desk has more bits of fabric on it than actual office supplies; I can see nine spools of thread from where I’m sitting, right now; I’m not sure I even have a pen within reach.

Bisexual female; old enough to know better but that rarely stops me; working on channeling OCD into actual helpful patterning, over destructive patterning. (Officially, I can’t watch Monk episodes because they’ve been known to provoke OCD attacks. Which is really sad, because I really, really like Tony Shalhoub.)

I love bad movies. I love Mystery Science Theatre 3000. My favorite film ever is Arsenic and Old Lace. My favorite book is Mindplayers by Pat Cadigan. My wedding colors were dark purple (my lady’s choice) and dark green (mine). We asked our third, a lovely lass ten years younger than either my lady or myself to marry us this past November—we’re now pondering if we want her to add to the colors already chosen, or if we want to choose three new colors. Our new love and I occasionally fight, we can bicker like two wet cats, and there are times we deeply upset one another—but I wouldn’t want her gone for the world. We waver between deep contentment, giggles, and merry chaos. Isn’t that how all good marriages work?

I like pretty girls, vintage erotica, tales of history, art, and the occult. I’m interested in comparative religion, science, the Muppets, Japanese culture, and gadgets. Occasionally some snippet of anime, music or just plain oddity will creep across my Tumblr feed.

Essentially, do not expect normal. I never do.
